Witnesses: 'Drug Deal Gone Bad' Led to Assault

Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives on St. Thomas are investigating a first degree attempted robbery and first degree assault that occurred Thursday in Savan.

Witnesses told police “a drug deal had gone bad.”

According to police, a man was hit on the head with a gun during the incident. At about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, witnesses said, they saw three masked men, each carrying handguns, enter a group of apartments on Small Strade and search at least three apartments.

One victim said the suspects knocked on his door but he refused to answer. He said the men forced their way in, threatened him with a gun and demanded money and gold jewelry. When he told them he did not have any, one suspect hit him in his head with a gun.

As the suspects left the area they fired least four shots into the air. No one else reported to police they were injured.

The case is being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives. Anyone with information can call detectives at 1-340-714-9834 or 1-340-715-5522, the 911 e3mergency call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
