Woman, 77, Struck By Vehicle

Police on St. Croix urged motorists to be cautious while driving, especially in areas where pedestrians are present, as they announced Thursday that a 77-year-old woman had been struck by a car and injured in the Estate La Reine area earlier in the week.

Police said the incident occurred about 11 a.m. Monday when the woman was crossing Queen Mary Highway from south to north in the vicinity of the bus shanty when she was struck by a vehicle that was traveling west to east.

Emergency medical personnel who attended the woman at the scene said she had suffered a broken pelvis.

The driver of the vehicle was a 72-year-old woman who remained on the scene and spoke to officers. No arrests were made at the time of the accident and officers said the case is under active investigation.
