Innovative Faces Another Incident of Copper Wire Theft Causing Service Disruption

Innovative Telephone is experiencing a telephone outage due to copper cable wire theft that occurred on the island of St. Croix.
It has been four times in two weeks that Innovative Telephone has been faced with copper wire theft on St. Croix. The Estate Glynn and Estate Calquohoun areas are suffering through an outage for the second time due to copper wire being stolen from Innovative’s outside plant. There were incidents of copper theft on July 22 in Estate Glynn and again on July 25 in Estate Calquohoun. Today’s incident interrupted service for approximately 81 residents. Innovative’s line crew and splicers restored service this afternoon in Estate Calquohoun and are working tirelessly to complete the repairs in Estate Glynn as soon as possible.
Dennis Chance, vice president of engineering, said, “We are working closely with the local authorities to curb the recent attacks on our outside plant and are doing our best in-house to secure the facilities.”
Purposeful disruption of telecommunication services is a federal offense because it may affect the ability of emergency responders and other individuals to communicate. Innovative will report this incident to both local and federal authorities. Innovative officials are encouraging anyone with information concerning the theft to contact the local authorities.
For cable TV or phone repairs, Innovative customers calling from landlines should dial 912. Customers using wireless phones can reach the repair center at 778-1742.
