The Hoyas overwhelmed the Rockers 85-73 Friday and the top-seeded Kings showed why they are the team to beat this year with 91-60 shellacking of Legacy in the New Breed Basketball Association playoffs.
Hoyas 85, Rockers 73
After being surprised in the series opener by the young Rockers, the five-time NBBA champion Hoyas responded by taking the final two games to advance to the semifinals against the defending champions, Boys Dem.
The Hoyas got 17 points and 10 rebounds from Warren Christian, 16 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks from Kurt “Tennis Man” John, and 13 and 12 points respectively from Karl John and Omari Applewaite in the victory.
The Rockers were led by Amalie Krigger with a game-high 21 points and Dashawn Garvey, who knocked down four 3-pointers in scoring 18 points for thegame.
Kings 91, Legacy 60
The Kings dominated the boards and every other aspect of their semifinal series opener against a game but over matched Legacy team, winning in a 3-point blowout, 91-60.
The Kings fielded a retooled squad this is season, a lineup that is huge up front. They used it to its full advantage against Legacy. Two of the Kings big men, Craig Williams and Cuthbert Victor, had 18 rebounds apiece and finished with 17 and 16 points respectively.
Top scorer for the Kings was Jermaine Mulley, who finished with a game-high 19 points. Jahreem Mulley chipped in 13 for the winners.
The overmatched Legacy squad was led by Bobby Evans with 16 points and eight assists and Joakeem Francis, who finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
