Police Charge Man in Butler Bay Homicide

The V.I. Police Department arrested Elijah Ritter, 25, and charged him in a fatal shooting that took place earlier this month at Estate Butler Bay near Frederiksted.

Ritter was arrested at about 3:20 p.m. Saturday, according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Melody Rames. He is charged with killing 31-year-old Sheldon Phillips, who was fatally shot.

According to police reports of the incident, Phillips had been seated in his car July 7 at the parking area in Estate Butler Bay, where a private party was being held. He was taken to the Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Ritter was arrested on a warrant. Rames did not report when the warrant was issued, or what led police to suspect the man.
