Cyril King Airport Roof Repairs Start July 22

Major repairs to the roof of the Cyril E. King Airport Terminal on St. Thomas will begin on Monday, July 22, according to a press release issued Friday by the Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA).
Executive Director Carlton Dowe said the $3.2 million project is funded by VIPA and should take about seven months to complete. The authority hired project contractor J. Benton Construction LLC to completely replace the roof’s membrane and substructure, and to replace sections of the metal roofing. The contractor will use a portion of the open lot at the foot of the Sub Base Road leading to the airport (adjacent to the Emerald Beach Hotel) to store containers of the materials needed to repair the roof.
Dowe said that the repairs to the roof will assist with controlling some of the severe roof leaks experienced at the terminal. He would also like to thank the traveling public, tenants and employees in advance for their patience as the work is being performed.
