Arson Suspected in Park Fire

Arson is suspected in a 10 p.m. Sunday fire that destroyed three V.I. National Park vehicles parked at the park’s maintenance yard in Cruz Bay. Park officials put the value of the vehicles at $90,000.

No suspects have been apprehended.

According to a park press release, the loss of these three vehicles has impacted daily maintenance operations at the park as well as the Youth Conservation Corps summer trails program since the vehicles were used to transport local students to and from work locations.

Crews from the park, the V.I. Fire Service and the Police Department responded to find the vehicles engulfed in flames.

The incident is under investigation by the park, the police, the Fire Service and the FBI.

Anyone with information about this crime should contact the park chief ranger’s office at 776-6201 ext. 228 or 254 or confidentially at Crime Stoppers V.I. at 800-222-8477.
