Proposals for historical and ecological gardens that use landscapes to teach the cultural and natural history of St. Croix will be presented during the National Park Service’s monthly lecture series.
The lecture will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday in the Danish Guinea West India Company Warehouse/ Slave Market Building in Christiansted. The Christiansted National Historic Site parking lot will be free and open from 4:45 to 7 p.m. for the event.
According to the Park Service, intern Alexandra Duro, a student at Rutgers University, will present recent landscape architecture senior studio projects developed by students during a January visit to the island. One project proposed a natural history trail for Southgate Pond and another developed a demonstration garden that examines the different food crops historically used on St. Croix for the Visitor Contact Station at Salt River Bay. Duro also works for Chatham Landscape Contractors in Bound Brook, N.J.
Preliminary images of the new master planning document for the Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve will also be on display at the event.
