Shooting Leaves Man with Injured Hand

Shots were fired Thursday night in Estate Carlton, leaving a man with a gunshot wound to the hand, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m., according to the preliminary investigation. Police say the victim, whose name was not released in accord with a department policy not to identify victims, was unable to give police any information due to pain he was feeling from his injury.

He was taken by ambulance to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment.

Police continuing the investigation found gunshot damage to a residence in the neighborhood. Several spent shell casings were collected near the residence. Additionally the eastern fence of the property was damaged and a black firearm was recovered near the fence line.

Detectives and crime scene technicians from the Criminal Investigation Bureau processed the scene, collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.
