James Augustus Fergus Dies at 81

James Augustus Fergus Veteran James Augustus Fergus of Westchester Drive, Burlington, N.C., died on April 1, at Rose Manor Health Care in Durham, N.C. He was 81 years old. He was a Korean and Vietnam War veteran.
He is survived by his daughters: Beatrice M. Fergus (N.C.) and Maria T. Fergus (Fla.); sons: Rene A. Fergus (N.C.) and James Fergus Jr. (N.Y.); special adopted daughter, Venesha L. Fergus (N.C.); grandchildren: Tamara and Saleem II Mumin (N.C.), Whitney Baker (Fla.), Brian Baker (N.C.) and Tenesha L. Pettiford (N.C.); great-granddaughter: Mariyah T. Moore (N.C.); sisters-in-law: Verna Petersen-Richmond (N.C.) and Inez Armstrong (Fla.); brothers-in-law: Ira Petersen (N.Y.) and Henry Armstrong (Fla.); and daughter-in-law, Linda Fergus (N.C.).

He is also surived by nieces and nephews: Anna and Eunice Rivera (Fla.) Melissa Brown (Fla.), Janice Armstrong (Fla.), Edwin Rivera (Texas), Mona Petersen (N.Y.), Elinor Eaton (St. Croix), Alfredo Petersen, Jr. (N.Y.) and Alan Petersen (Nev.); great nephew, Omar Eaton (N.Y.); cousins: Pearl Gibson (Md.), Pat Williams (St. Croix) and Esther Urgent (St. Croix); special cousins: Louise Arnold Clarke (St. Croix) and Yvonne Giddings-St Louis (St. Croix), friends: Emelda Edwards (St. Croix ), Mr. and Mrs. Delroy Thomas (St. Croix), Richard Schrader (St. Croix) and Selma (St. Croix); as well as other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
Special thanks to the American Legion Members, Post 133, Frederiksted, St. Croix; American Foreign League; Davita Burlington staff; Rose Manor staff; Clements Funeral Services and James Memorial Funeral Home Inc., St. Croix.
There will be a viewing held at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 26, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery, Veterans Section.
