Easter Bonnet, Roger Rabbit Classics Top Sunday Race Card

The Easter Bonnet Classics for mares and fillies and the Roger Rabbit Classic for colts and geldings will highlight TRAXCO’s Easter Sunday race card at the Randall “Doc” James Race Track. Both races will be contested at the one-mile distance however the ladies will run for a purse of $7,200.00 while the males’ will compete for $8,200.00.

In the Easter Bonnet Classic, the sixth race on the card, Turned to Gold, the mare that has four wins in five starts since coming to the territory will undoubtedly be the overwhelming favorite and will be tough to beat.

Her lone loss was to Lea the Punisher, but Turned to Gold has since avenged that loss two times over. Her toughest competition may come from Holy Barbara, second in their last encounter in September 2012.

Imperial Award will be making her debut on St. Croix but appears to be in way over her head. She is coming from Puerto Rico where she had two wins in 24 starts and was 10th in a field of 12 in her last race on that island, a $3,500 claiming race. The other two entries, Baby Bopp and Morning Sunday, will also be vying for second place money.

In the Roger Rabbit Classic, the seventh race on the card, Twisted Dream out of St. Thomas seems to be the standout in this field, but newcomer Parachute Coney could make things interesting if he takes to the RDJ surface first time out. He was fourth in a $20,000 claiming race at Saratoga Race Track in New York in his last race on the mainland and has competed against much better racers than those he will be facing on Sunday.

Remarkable Storm was also once a good competitor, and has good blood lines from both sire and dam. If his St. Croix handlers could find that winning form again he could be in the mix as well. Expect Smoke, Plotter and Congo to fight hard to get in the money.
