Department of Labor Reminds Employers to Report New Hires

All employers of private, non-profit or government agencies must report all new employee hires whether the employee is full-time, part-time, a student or a temporary worker,, within 20 days of hire or re-hire. This is a local and federal requirement, according to a press release issued on Monday by the V.I. Department of Labor.
An employer who fails to timely report the hiring or rehiring of an employee is subject to a civil penalty of:
1) $25 for each such failure or
2) $500 if the failure to report is intentional and is the result of an agreement between the employer and the employee to not supply the required information, or to supply false or incomplete information.
The New Hire Reporting form can be downloaded from the VIDOL Web site at www.vidol.gov under the forms tabs. Employers can submit their forms:
Via e-mail to: newhire@vidol.gov or
Via fax to 714-4994 (Attention: New Hire Reporting) or
By postal mail (Attention: New Hire Reporting, 2353 Kronsprindsens Gade St. Thomas, VI 00802)
