Division of Real Property Issues 2011 Property Tax Bills

The Division of Real Property will soon issue the 2011 real property tax bills to Virgin Islands property owners. The 2011 bills were issued to all property owners of record as of Jan. 1, 2012, according to a press release issued Thursday by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of the Virgin Islands.
The division will again offer early payment discounts for property tax payers who pay their bills before the April 8 due date. A five percent discount will be applied to bills paid by March 25. Persons paying their 2011 tax bill after that date and before the due date will receive a discount of 2.5 percent. Property owners are encouraged to pay the 2011 tax bill by June 8 in order to avoid late payment fees. The deadline for filing appeals with the Board of Tax Review regarding tax assessments is June 24.
Payments for the 2011 property taxes and all past due years can be paid at the Tax Collector’s Offices at the following locations:
St. John: Islandia Building
St. Thomas: Builders Emporium
St. Croix: 1105 King Street (Government House, Christiansted)
1131 King Street, Suite 101 (Christiansted)
4008 Estate Diamond (Department of Finance, Sunny Isles)
Lagoon Street Commercial Building No. 1 (Frederiksted)
Payments can be made in person or by mail. Property owners are reminded that they do not need to have their tax bill if they plan to pay their 2011 bill in person. Persons making payments by mail can enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope in order to receive proof of payment. Payments of checks, cash, money orders, and ATM, debit and credit cards (Visa and Mastercard only) are accepted at the window. Property owners submitting their payments by mail are advised not to send cash.
