Work to transfer water customers in some west St. Croix neighborhoods to a new service line will cause temporary service interruptions in Estate Whim, Campo Rico and Hannah’s Rest, the V.I. Water and Power Authority reported.
The authority’s contractor, Virgin Islands Paving Inc., will minimize down-time to existing customers by having both old and new lines active during the transfer, WAPA said.
Some temporary service interruptions for major tie-ins will occur until all the new lines are tied into the existing distribution system, according to the utility.
On Wednesday connections in Campo Rico will occur at two locations, causing a water service interruption from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the three areas.
Traffic will be rerouted during construction hours.
The Whim waterline rehabilitation project consists of installing approximately 20,100 linear feet of new 6-inch PVC water lines in Estate Whim. Work is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and is expected to be completed by March 30.
WAPA said the project, which is funded by the Territorial Drinking Water Capital Improvement Grant Program and Legislative Act 7081, Bill No. 28-0089, will greatly improve water service to Estate Whim customers.
