Evelyn M. Williams Dies at 98

Evelyn M. Williams died on Feb. 2. She died at the age of 98. Williams was a dedicated educator whose career spanned more than 40 years. Her total commitment to education has had a meaningful impact on the lives of thousands of students and our entire community. She is of a generation of educators that were legendary in their devotion to the teaching profession.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet W. Lake; son, Douglas M. Williams; son-in-law, Edgar O. Lake; daughter-in-law, Gloria J. M. Williams; nieces: Ruby Vanterpool, Ina Gill, Yvonne Henry and Lorraine Henry; nephews: Norris Benjamin Sr., Octave Benjamin, Eric Benjamin Jr., Derek Benjamin, Milton Henry and Ezra Henry; great niece: Janice, Brenda, Denise, Cadera and Dereka Benjamin; great nephews: Dwayne Henry Esq., Melvin Benjamin, Norris (Tito) Benjamin Jr., Anthony Adath, Dexter Benjamin and Patrick Brathwaite; step-grand-children: Olisa Ihsan Lake and Malachi Wilson; godchildren: Lloyd Daniel, Lunsford Williams, Karen B. Acoy, Iris Acoy Canton, Germaine Miller, Ohanio Lang, Winona Sackey and Deanna Sackey.
She is also survived by special friends: Albert/Marie Schuster, Fr./Mrs. David Henry, Fr./Mrs. Richard Abbott, Cynthia Thomas, Pastor/Mrs. Keith Gibson, Dr./Mrs. Marc Jerome, the Jacobs family, Ann Abramson, James/Doreen Rodgers, Genevieve Allen, Doris Gardine, Calvin Perkins, Rita Phillips, Eugenie Lynch, Louise Flamer and family, Sarah James and family, the O’Donoghue family, Deanna Sackey, Winona Sackey Joshua, the Johannes family, the Ross family, the Seales family and the Holy Cross Episcopal Church family; cousins and other relatives: the Brannigan family, the Richards family, the Donohue family, the Johnson family, Beverly Williams and family, Audrey Miller and family, Robert Williams and family, Sylvia Williams and family, Josette Williams and family, Marion Gwynn Allick and family,Theodore Brow and family, Charles Brow and family, Gordon Reilly and family, and Frederick Williams and family.

A viewing will take place at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 11, at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Estate Upper Love. Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery, Veterans Section.
