Isaac Forces Cancelation of Miami Flights

American Airlines Sunday canceled all flight from St. Thomas and St. Croix to Miami, the V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency said Sunday morning.

The agency’s announcement didn’t mention the reason, but the American Airlines website said flights were affected because of the “storm,” presumably Tropical Storm Isaac. No one could be reached at the American public relations office in Miami for further information, but according to the American website, passengers can rebook their flights once.

The website indicated that anyone traveling to, through or from Miami, Fort Lauderdale or West Palm Beach through Monday with tickets booked before Saturday, can rebook for flights through Wednesday.

Anyone traveling to, through or from St. Thomas and St. Croix through Sunday on a ticket issued no later than Aug. 22 can rebook through Aug. 28.

At an Aug. 22 press conference, Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson-Doty said there were 4,500 visitors across the territory, with 700 of them on St. Croix.

Lorena Leonard, the romance and sales director at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort on St. Thomas, said that they had one couple scheduled to fly out via Miami on Sunday, but they are staying on until they can fly out.
