ICMC and Downtown Revitalization Host Jazz in the Park Event

International Capital & Management Company (ICMC) will expand on its popular “Jazz in the Park” concert series to include food vendors, arts & craft suppliers, and children’s activities. More importantly, this event will feature the Downtown Revitalization Inc. (DRI), a community organization very much involved in promoting the revitalization of the Downtown Area from Frenchtown to Havensight and the harbor to the neighborhoods of Downstreet, Savan, Garden Street/Long Path, Upstreet/Polyberg and Sugar Estate.
This event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, July 26, at Roosevelt Park and Hospital Gade on St. Thomas and will feature the live sounds of Grammy Award-winning Dion Parson and Victor Provost, two very accomplished jazz recording artists from the Virgin Islands. The event is free and open to the public. “The partnership with DRI on this event is quite natural since their work fits the key objective of the ‘Jazz in Park’ series, which is to get people back Downtown to embrace and enjoy the city and one of its loveliest parks”, said ICMC President Cornel Williams.
DRI began as a series of conversations, followed by informal meetings between residents, land owners and business owners in the Charlotte Amalie area in 2009, becoming incorporated in March 2012 and has quickly become a respected voice for parties interested in improving the downtown area on many fronts.
“DRI is very pleased to co-sponsor this event with ICMC, a member of DRI,” said David Bornn, president of DRI. “DRI has been seeking multiple ways in which to implement its mission to energize revitalization of our downtown. We are tackling issues of parking, traffic flow, harbor transportation, bringing back residential and neighborhood life, public safety and overall appearance of our downtown. This event seeks to focus on pride in those developments.”
Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and coolers as you relax on the beautiful Roosevelt Park lawn or meander along vendor’s row. “The event promises to be entertaining, informative and lots of fun for the entire family,” says ICMC Community Relations Manager Karen Nelson-Hughes. “It’s about brining life back to the downtown Charlotte Amalie area, as well as continuing to invigorate our sense of community.”
