St. Thomas Man Shot in Hand

St. Thomas police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a man who was shot in his hand. Police were on patrol in the Fourwinds Plaza area when an occupant of a black Ford Explorer flagged the police vehicle. Inside were two people, and one – a male – had a gunshot wound to his left hand, according to a police statement.

The victim told police that he was taking out the garbage from his home in Estate Tutu and he saw a vehicle drive near him and that three shots were discharged. He said he ran home and realized he was shot. The victim then refused to answer any additional questions asked by police.

He was taken to Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment. Medical staff told police that a large amount of gun powder residue was found near the wound which may indicate that the gunshot was self inflicted.
