Tourism Commissioner Receives ‘Allied Award’

Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson Doty received the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s Allied Award in recognition of her contribution to the sustainable development of tourism in the Caribbean, the Tourism Department announced in a press release Wednesday.

"I am honored to be recognized by this outstanding organization," Doty said.

The commissioner showered praise on the Tourism Department team members for their collective commitment to tourism enhancement in the territory and, by extension, the Caribbean region.

"We could not think of a better candidate for this year’s award," said Jacqueline Johnson, chairman of the Allied Committee and a noted weddings consultant. "Commissioner Nicholson Doty has been a champion of all things Caribbean, and we continue to lean on her for guidance and counsel in moving tourism in the region to next level."

The Caribbean Tourism Organization made the announcement during Caribbean Week in New York celebrations last week. Andréa Skerritt, Mbooth’s New York-based public relations representative for the territory, received the award on behalf of Doty, who was in Sacramento participating in urgent aviation talks.

Doty joins distinguished company alongside earlier winners like tourism consultant Myrtle Dwyer of Jamaica, Luis Simo of the Dominican Republic, CBS Television’s Dave Price, and Hugh Riley, CTO’s secretary general.

Established in 2005, the Allied Award is presented to an individual within the CTO ranks, whether from the public or private sector, who has done an extraordinary job of contributing to the sustainable development of the Caribbean region.
