The Forum Presents Classical Concert

On Friday, April 13, the Forum will present premier clarinetist David Shifrin with pianist Gloria Chien performing beautiful music by Poulenc, Debussy, Brahms and Rossini at 8 pm in Prior-Jollek Hall (on the Antilles School campus). Please note that if you have a season program and see April 14 listed as the date of this concert, the date has been changed to April 13.
David Shifrin, one of only two wind players ever awarded the Avery Fisher Prize, has been on the Yale faculty since 1987 and a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center since 1989. He has received three Grammy nominations and is widely considered the finest classical clarinetist in the U.S. The San Francisco Chronicle says his playing is “a revelation in just how beautifully the clarinet can be played.”
Gloria Chien holds doctoral, masters and undergraduate degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Since her orchestral debut at age 16 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, she has performed with symphonies and chamber ensembles and as a soloist. The Boston Globecalled her one of the superior pianists of the year who “appears to excel in everything.”
This concert is the last Forum concert of the 2011-12 season. Make a night of it by having dinner beforehand at The Lobster Grille at Bolongo Bay. Call 775-1800 for reservations and tell them you are going to the concert; they promise to get you to the concert on time after a great dinner.
Tickets are $35; for teachers, $10; for students, $5. They are available by calling Reichhold Center for the Arts at 693-1559 and at the following outlets: Dockside Bookshop, Interiors at Fort Mylner and Home Again in Red Hook.
