Catholic Charities Hosts International Festival of Food

Catholic Charities has announced plans to host the Virgin Islands’ first International Festival of Food, scheduled for St. Croix’s Agricultural Fair Grounds on Sunday, Aug. 12. The festival will be a celebration of the cultural diversity of the V.I. The theme is “Reaffirming faith in the dignity and worth of the human person.” The goal is to bring all residents together to enjoy a day of food, fun and fellowship.
Besides food, the festival will also feature the traditional music, dance, children games, poetry reading, storytelling, fashions and arts and crafts from around the world.
The festival will be a fundraiser to support the homeless programs of Catholic Charities; specifically, Bethlehem House Shelter for the Homeless. According to Executive Director Michael Akin, all clubs, churches, associations and organizations are invited to partner with Catholic Charities, as they too will have an opportunity to raise funds by marketing the traditional foods, crafts and souvenirs of the country they wish to represent.
Interested persons or organizations are asked to call Akin at 777-8518 on St. Thomas, or on St. Croix Daisy Lafond at 773-0132 or Laurine Parrilla at 778-1227.
