Human Services Joins National ‘Let’s Move’ Initiative

The Department of Human Services Office of Childcare and Regulatory Services will host child care center provider orientation incorporating the Virgin Islands Let’s Move! Child Care State Challenge, which is a national child health initiative developed by First Lady Michelle Obama. The orientations are scheduled for 9:30-11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, on St. Thomas at the Head Start Sugar Estate conference room and Wednesday, March 7, on St. Croix at the Old Danish School.
The orientations will serve to work with the territory’s child care providers to decrease “screen time” activities, promote healthy eating, and increase physical activities that are developmentally appropriate for children of all ages. First Lady Cecile deJongh will give opening remarks at Tuesday’s orientation followed by presentations about health and nutrition from Karida Green, coordinator of the Virgin Islands Let’s Move! and Human Services Assistant Nutritionist Alice Henry, MPH, RD.
