Special Olympics to Hold Area Games

The Special Olympics Virgin Islands has planned to host its area events on St. Croix and St. Thomas in March. The public is invited to attend and cheer on the athletes as they compete in the games.

The St. Croix games will take place March 10 at Renaissance Park. Opening ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m. on St. Croix, with Central High School JROTC leading the parade of athletes around the track.

Athletes will compete in the short runs of 25, 50, 100 and 200 meters; the standing long jump; basketball; bocce; tennis and softball throw.

On March 24, St. Thomas Area games will take place at 9 a.m. at Charlotte Amalie High School track and gym and will include a formal opening ceremony, including a reading of the Special Olympics motto.

All athletes are asked to turn in their completed registration forms. For further questions, contact Director Janice Lee at 772-2277.
