VI Duathlon Championship Race Results Given

On Sunday, 21 competitors faced the strong wind on the North Shore Road. VITF hosted the third annual VI Duathlon championship race at the Chenay Bay Resort, and a new course record was
set. Kellen Hood, currently training for a busy triathlon season, upset the two-year reign of this year’s second-place finisher Troy Holloway. Kellen’s overall time was 1:01:36. Scott Fricks, new to the 50-59 age group, repeated as the third-place finisher.
Sue Brown, once again, dominated the women’s field and finished the 1-mile run, 13- mile bike and 3-mile run in 1:12:52. Laura Hood was the second female to cross the line, while Carol Murphy was third
Kellen and Sue were awarded Jan Mitchell glass "medals" as the Champion prize. The age-group champions are as follows:
Male Under 20 – Adriel Sanes
Male 20-29 – Zack Lampkin
Male 30-39 – Billy Bohlke
Male 50-59 – Scott Fricks
Male 60-69 – Roger Hatfield
Female 20-29 – Laura Hood
Female 30-39 – Jen Andrews
Female 40-49 – Louise Stapleton
Female 50-59 – Carol Murphy
Special recognition goes to Adriel Sanes, who was the only youth in the race. He rode the full east end loop for the first time this morning. Also, our sincere regrets go to John Salo, who was unable to finish the race.
The next race is the West Is Best at 7 a.m. on March 11 at Coconut’s on the Beach, Frederiksted. The Sprint race consists of a .5-mile swim, 11-mile bike, 3-mile run and the Try-a-Tri will be a 300-yd. swim, 6.5-mile bike, 1.5-mile run. Relay teams are welcome. Racers can pre-register at Stamina Sports (Sprint: $35, Try-a-Tri: $25, each relay member: $20). Call Tom for more information at 718-6749.
