In a nod to the importance of Danish travelers to the Virgin Islands, the Tourism Department announced Monday that it has added Danish to its list of languages translated on the site. The website is also available in Spanish and English.
Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson Doty said, “The best way to reach potential visitors is by communicating with them in their language.”
By providing information about the territory in Danish, she said, “We are not only customizing the user experience but also showing our appreciation for their business.”
The Danish translation is part of the department’s ongoing strategy to attract visitors from key markets worldwide. The newly-added Danish translation is an important step in reaching consumers in the destination’s top international market.
To access the translated web site, users can select their language of choice from a drop-down menu at the top right corner of the home page. The Danish website is identical to the English site, apart from portions of the content which have been customized for the Danish audience, such as U.S. entry requirements for Danish citizens.
The packages and promotions page will also highlight special offers from Danish tour operators.
The translated web site compliments brochures the department prints in Danish for use at trade shows and to distribute to travel agents in Denmark.
The website’s Spanish translation was added in 2009 to serve the growing population of Spanish speakers in the United States and abroad. Other foreign language promotional materials include brochures in Spanish and Italian.
According to the press release, tourism’s aggressive marketing of its website continues to increase the number of consumers who are actively seeking out the territory online as a vacation destination.
Currently www.VisitUSVI.com averages 75,000 visitors per month.
