Two in Hospital After Machete Attack

Police on St. Croix are investigating a case where two men were injured Sunday during a machete attack at Green Cay marina when one man allegedly caught another man taking coconuts from a tree.

According to police, the attack happened a few minutes after 5 a.m. A male groundskeeper, who works at Green Cay marina, told police he saw a Green Cay security guard standing on a ladder picking coconuts from a tree.

The groundskeeper told police the ladder belonged to him, and so he asked the guard to get off his ladder, which apparently resulted in the two men arguing and swinging machetes at each other.

Both men were taken to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital Medical Center. According to police, one man had a deep cut on the left side of his face and the other was cut on his left forearm.

As of Monday afternoon, both men were still in the hospital undergoing treatment for their wounds.

Police said the case remains under active investigation.
