Park Friends Annual Meeting Sunday

The Friends of V.I. National Park will hold its annual meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cinnamon Bay Campground’s T’ree Lizards Restaurant. University of the Virgin Islands President David Hall will be the keynote speaker.

“He’ll speak about ways to get students from the Virgin Islands to work in the park,” Friends program manager Audrey Penn said.

She said to encourage students to work in the park, the Friends sponsor a Ranger in Training program and award scholarships to students whose studies will qualify them for park jobs.

Park Superintendent Mark Hardgrove will give a state of the park address. Friends President Joe Kessler will report on the Friends’ accomplishments in 2011, and plans for 2012.

Friends members and members of the community are invited to learn more about the Friends group and the national park. At the meeting, browse the Friends Store items on display, sign up for the 2012 seminars, buy gala tickets, purchase a set of Friends license plates, or update your annual membership. Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.

Parking is always limited at Cinnamon Bay, so a free shuttle service will be provided from the park maintenance area by Mongoose Junction shopping center. Parking will be available at the maintenance area.

Call 779-4940 for more information and to let the Friends know you plan to attend.
