BIR Reminds Taxpayers of Motor Vehicle Rental Surcharge Increase

Every person who rents a vehicle is reminded that the rental surcharge has increased from $2 per day to $3.75 per day, effective Jan. 1, according to a press release issued Friday by the Virgin Islands Bureau of Internal Revenue.
All rental car businesses are reminded that they are responsible for collecting the motor vehicle rental surcharge by placing it as a separate item on the statement given to the person who rents the car. The Vehicle Rental Surcharge returns are due on the 30th day after the end of each month.
Questions concerning the vehicle rental surcharge should be directed to the Office of Chief Counsel at 715-1040, ext 2249.
