Johnny Cake Eating Championship and Raffle Benefit Boys and Girls Club

On Sunday, Jan. 15, Ziggy’s Island Market on the East End Road of St. Croix will sponsor and host the 3rd Annual St. Croix Johnny Cake Eating Championship and Raffle. The charity event will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of the Virgin Islands and the St. Croix Foundation. One hundred percent of all donations, raffle ticket sales, food sales, and contest entry fees will be donated to the Boy & Girls Club.
The event will kickoff at 2 p.m. and will be highlighted by the Johnny Cake Eating Championship at 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate or watch St. Croix’s finest eaters vie for the crown. Entry in the contest is $20, and all participants will receive a T-shirt. The winning eater will also receive a trophy, the title of St. Croix’s Johnny Cake Eating Champion, and a johnny cake every day of 2012, courtesy of Ziggy’s Market. Those interested in entering the competition can register at Ziggy’s Market any time prior to the event. In addition to the Johnny Cake Eating Contest, the crowd will be entertained by DJ Don, who will be emceeing the event and highlighting the afternoon’s musical entertainment.
In addition to the festivities, food will be available from 2-4 p.m. provided by Ziggy’s, the Blue Water Terrace, The Cultured Pelican and several other local restaurants. There will also be drink
specials all afternoon in Ziggy’s Libation Station Bar. The raffle will end the afternoon’s activities and will feature thousands of dollars in prizes donated by dozens of St. Croix’s finest restaurants, stores and other businesses.
Raffle tickets are only $3 each or two for $5 and are available now at Ziggy’s. In these tough economic times, funding to these two vital community organizations cannot keep up with all of the financial requirements for the services they provide. Those who would like to make a donation can register for the eating contest.
Sponsors: all donations are tax deductible. You will receive credit on Ziggy’s Web page and facebook page as well as all signage and advertising posted at Ziggy’s prior to and during the event.
