Woman Arrested for Lying to Police

Police on St. Croix arrested 26-year-old Yaritza Ramos Wednesday for allegedly reporting false information that she had been assaulted by her former boyfriend in an incident that occurred in October. The investigation determined that she had instead, been assaulted by a female friend.

Domestic Violence detectives said that Ramos reported to police on Oct. 28, that she was assaulted by her former boyfriend while at the D. Hamilton Jackson Terrace apartments. Ramos told police at the time that her boyfriend punched her, pulled her hair, slammed her to the ground, and strangled her, and also said that louvers in her apartment were damaged during the assault.

However, according to police, the investigation revealed that when Ramos made the 911 call, she indicated she was being assaulted by a female acquaintance, but changed her story when police arrived to accuse her former boyfriend.

The investigation also revealed that Ramos had been previously arrested in March and in July for assaulting her former boyfriend, and was charged at the time with third-degree assault, carrying or using a dangerous weapon during a crime of violence, and mayhem.

Ramos was arrested at about 5 p.m. and charged with reporting false information to police, and was held on a $10,000 bail. She was remanded to the custody of the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending further court action.
