Man Shot While Taking Out Trash

A 50-year-old man was shot Monday morning in the thigh, while throwing away his garbage at the Estate Concordia dump site on St. Croix, according to police.

According to police reports, the victim told officers that while he was at the dump site, an unknown man wearing a multi-colored bandana over his face approached him and demanded the keys to his car. The victim said when he told the suspect “I can’t do that,” the suspect allegedly fired at least one shot at him, striking him in the leg.

The victim allegedly jumped into his car, fled the scene, and drove to B Command at Estate Hannah’s Rest where he reported the incident to the police. He was treated by EMTs, who were called to the station, but police said the victim refused to go to the hospital.

The case is being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives and anyone who has any information n this case is urged to contact detectives at 712-6037, 712-6077, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
