Police Investigate Two Crimes at Auero Diaz Heights

St. Croix Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives are investigating two crimes in the Auero Diaz Heights housing community. Monday, a first-degree robbery left a minor without his cell phone, and Tuesday, a first-degree assault resulted in a man being shot twice.

According to police, a woman told officers about 5:30 p.m. Monday, that her minor son had been robbed of his cellular phone near the housing community office. The woman said a man approached the minor demanding money. When the victim said he didn’t have any, the suspect apparently brandished a firearm, took the minor’s cell phone, and walked away.

Then, around 5 p.m. Tuesday night, a 35-year-old man was apparently sitting on his sofa near building #4, when he was shot several times by a male suspect. According to police, the male was dressed in blue jeans and a black t-shirt, and he was covering his face with a black shirt, when he fired several shots at the victim before fleeing.

The victim had gunshot wounds on his left thigh and left arm and was bruised on his head and upper back. A private vehicle took him to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center for treatment.

Both cases remain under active investigation. Anyone having any information is asked to call investigators at 712-6037, 712-6077, or call Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
