Teen Talk Show Cast to Host Christmas Toy Drive

Students from the local teen talk show “Graffiti Street” will be collecting toys beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at the St. Croix Cost U Less, which will benefit the Catholic Charities of the Virgin Islands.

Twenty cast members from St. Croix will be participating and are hoping to collect toys and books for kids between the ages of 3-12, according to producer Wendy Wynter. Only the cast members from St. Croix will be participating in the toy drive.

“The cast on St. Croix came up with idea and St. Thomas cast members won’t be participating, but they might be holding a separate drive later,” Wynter said.

Celebrating its 20th year, “Graffiti Street” was established as an outlet for high school students on St. Thomas to express their views on the topics that were of local and national interest to their age group.

The teen talk show has since expanded throughout the territory with student cast members on St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix. The casts are made up of students from the public, parochial, and private high schools throughout the territory.

“It’s important to our cast that they touch the lives of as many as they can, especially during the holiday season,” Wynter said. “We engage them in as many community service events and activities as we can and when they came to us with this idea we jumped on it right away.”

All students from grades 9-12 are invited to audition at the beginning of the school year. “Graffiti Street” airs on WTJX or Channel 12 at 3:30 p.m. on Sundays.
