Frederiksted Man Has Car Stolen After Being Shot

A 43-year-old Frederiksted man was shot in the hip Tuesday night by an unknown assailant, who also stole the victim’s car.

According to the preliminary police report, the victim was sitting on a wall on Market Street eating food when an unknown man approached him from behind, demanding money. The victim reportedly turned and saw a man wearing a black ski mask, aiming a black handgun toward him.

The victim told the suspect he didn’t have any money and began running down the street when the suspect discharged at least one shot, hitting the victim in his hip, according to the report.

The suspect also took the victim’s car, which was abandoned nearby with the keys still in it.

The victim was taken to Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment. There was no further update on his medical condition.

This case will be followed up by Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives. Police are urging anyone who has any information regarding this crime to call detectives at 712-6037, 712- 6077 or you can call Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
