Police Arrest Two for Assault in Separate Incidents

St. Thomas police arrested two for assault last week, including a man that kicked his own father, destroyed his father’s property, and attacked a police officer.

Lee Joseph, 29, was arrested shortly before 10 a.m. Friday, and charged with destruction of property domestic violence, simple assault domestic violence, and aggravated assault and battery upon a police officer. While the exact nature of the incident was not detailed, a V.I. Police Department news release said that bail for Joseph had been denied due to the nature of the crime.

In a separate incident Sunday, Mercedes Alvarez, 40, threw a rock at another woman, hitting her in the head and causing various injuries. According to the police news release, the victim required stitches.

Alvarez was arrested shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday, and her bail was set at $25,000.

Both Alvarez and Joseph have been remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
