Saturated Patrols Aid Officers in Recovery of More Unlicensed Firearms

Special Operations Bureau officers on St. Croix arrested two men in separate actions for possession of unlicensed firearms during a saturated patrol. One firearm was confiscated in the John F. Kennedy housing community Friday, and the other was confiscated from a Beston Hill residence on Monday afternoon.

Special Operations Bureau officers on Friday responded to shots fired in the JFK housing community.

When officers arrived, they saw a male acting suspiciously and detained him. Anthony Cambridge, 18, was arrested after police recovered a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson chrome revolver in his pants pocket along with six spent shell casings.

Cambridge was arrested and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and unauthorized possession of an unlicensed firearm. He was held on a $25,000 bail and remanded to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending further court action.

Patrol officers also responded to an emergency call at 4:15 p.m. Monday regarding shots fired in Beeston Hill.

After receiving a detailed description from the caller, officers arrived and quickly located 18-year-old Raheem Christian, who they questioned about the fired shots. Police found a 9mm handgun, six live rounds of ammunition, and two spent shell casings in the home where Christian was detained.

Christian was arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of an unlicensed firearm and unauthorized possession of ammunition. He was placed on a $25,000 bail. Following his advice of rights hearing, the court placed Christian on 24-hour house arrest pending further court action.

St. Croix Police Chief Christopher Howell said the saturated patrol is allowing officers to do an outstanding job taking illegal weapons off the streets of St. Croix.

“The officers confiscated three firearms recently at JFK, Beston Hill and from a traffic stop near Estate Campo Rico,” Howell said. “I want to thank the community for their support of the saturated patrol knowing these officers are doing a great service to this community through their diligent police work.”
