Sketchy information has surfaced about an alleged sexual “incident” after school Tuesday at Julius E. Sprauve School on St. John. The Education Department won’t release any details until an investigation is complete, spokeswoman Ananta Pancham said Friday.
“We’re trying to figure out exactly what happened,” she said.
Pancham said the department isn’t releasing further information to protect the students. “It’s a very small school,” she said.
Police Department spokeswoman Melody Rames said the Education Department is handling the matter. A statement from Education indicated the Human Services Department is also involved in the investigation.
According to the statement, Sprauve School Principal Dionne Wells learned about the incident Thursday afternoon. Wells took immediate action and along with notifying authorities, held a hearing Friday morning with the students involved in the incident and their parents, the statement said.
Pancham said the department sent out a press release Friday because her office received calls from the media.
