St. Croix police are investigating a nonfatal shooting and robbery of a male victim, which occurred in Christiansted early Monday morning.
Police responded to an emergency call of a robbery near Hospital Street in Christiansted, just before 4 a.m. When officers arrived, they noticed a man lying on the side of the road with at least one gunshot wound to his groin area and thigh.
The victim told police he was robbed by two men of his jewelry and watch. Police said a gold pendant, sunglasses, a pocketknife and at least one spent shell casing was collected from the scene.
The victim was transported to Juan F. Luis hospital, where he remained in stable condition as of Monday afternoon, according to Xaulanda Simmonds-Emmanuel, the hospital’s spokesperson.
