St. Croix police have identified the victims in Tuesday’s double murder in Estate Welcome as 25-year old Darnel Harvey, also known as “Numci,” and 21-year-old Jahmaney Rawlins.
Both victims died after being shot by unknown assailants in a supermarket parking lot in Estate Welcome. A third victim, who is 27 years old, was taken to Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment after being shot in his upper right arm and right thigh.
According to police reports, at least two assailants, who were on the road to the left of the grocery store, opened fire on the victims’ white SUV at about 11:15 a.m. as it was attempting to park in the lot. Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives said on Wednesday that no weapons were found in the vehicle the victims were traveling in.
In a statement released earlier Wednesday, St. Croix Police Chief Christopher Howell called the recent increase in violent crime “unacceptable” and noted that additional manpower has been added to a specialized unit to deter further violent crimes and bring the perpetrators of Tuesday’s murders to justice.
VIPD officials are urging the public to come forth with any information on the double murder. Citizens can call VIPD detectives at 712-6077 or 712-6037, or contact Crime Stoppers USVI by calling 1-800-222-TIPS.
