Man Dressed as a Woman Robs Bank

St. Croix police are investigating an armed robbery involving a man who apparently dressed up as woman to rob a Scotia Bank in Estate Diamond on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were alerted to the robbery at about 12:35 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, witnesses told officers that a man dressed as a woman came into the bank and stood in line until he was called by the teller. Once at the teller, the man produced a handgun he had concealed in his clothes and told the teller to give him all her money, which she did.

The suspect left the bank and fled on foot in a westerly direction. He was wearing a jeans dress with black dress pants underneath, black sneakers, a brown curly wig, black sunshades and purple lipstick.

Witnesses said there were about 10 persons in the bank at the time of the robbery. Detectives and forensic technicians investigated the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone having any information regarding this robbery is asked to call the detectives at 712-6037 or 712-6077, or call Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
