At least two men are dead and one wounded after being shot Tuesday morning across the street from the D.C. Canegeta Ballpark on St. Croix, according to the V.I. Police Department.
Police believe at least two assailants were responsible for the shootings.
The deaths were the 26th and 27th homicides to occur on St. Croix, since Jan. 1, the 38th and 39th in the territory.
At about 11:15 a.m., 911 dispatchers told officers shots were reported fired in Estate Welcome, which is almost directly across from the ballpark. When police arrived, they saw a white Suburban with three gunshot victims inside.
Two of the victims died on the scene. The third was taken to Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment.
Police said they believe that two or more people opened fire on the vehicle as it was attempting to park.
The V.I. Police Department said it will provide further information as it becomes available.
