An intensive one-day workshop will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Rare Earth Studio, downtown. The cost is $150. Students will learn how to make beautiful chains without soldering. The workshop will also cover:
- the history of chain mail
- physical properties of various jewelry metals
- how to make jump rings
- how to assemble jump rings into beautiful chains
- how to make basic clasps
At the end of the class students will have made a bronze Byzantine bracelet—theirs to keep. Tools and materials will be provided. The skills learned in this class will allow students to continue their jewelry-making at home with a minimum of equipment and financial investment. Rare Earth Studio is also available by reservation for use of facilities and tools. The instructor will be Julia Gardner, M. D.
