Brief: Woman Shot in Shoulder at Diaz Heights

Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives with the V.I. Police Department on St. Croix are investigating a first-degree assault on a woman who was shot in the shoulder Wednesday at the Aureo Diaz Heights housing community.

According to the preliminary police report, officers were dispatched to the area to investigate shots fired and when they arrived, they were informed that the gunshot victim had been taken to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center for treatment.

The officers interviewed the woman at the hospital, and she apparently told police she was sitting in a vehicle and saw a man armed with a handgun approach her vehicle from the rear. The suspect fired several shots and she was shot in the back of her left shoulder. The victim said the suspect then ran behind a building and she was taken to the hospital by private vehicle.
