Man Charged With Firing Shots During Argument With Girlfriend

St. Croix police on Monday arrested and charged a man with first-degree reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm after he allegedly fired shots into the air following an argument with his girlfriend in the Aureo Diaz Heights Housing Community.

According to a V.I. Police Department release, 24-year-old Allie Benjamin of Estate Sion Farm was arrested after police responded at 12:45 a.m. Monday to investigate discharging of shots. According to the initial police report, when officers arrived they spoke to residents who informed them Benjamin and his girlfriend were arguing in the parking lot. At one point, Benjamin allegedly displayed a black handgun and threatened his girlfriend with it, firing several shots into the air.

Police located Benjamin and attempted to place him under arrest; however, Benjamin resisted arrest causing minor injuries to two officers.

Benjamin was also charged with brandishing and exhibiting a deadly weapon, carrying or using a deadly weapon during the commission of a crime of violence, interfering with an officer discharging his duties, resisting arrest, and aggravated assault and battery upon a police officer.

Benjamin’s bail was set at $10,000, and he was remanded to the Golden Grove Correctional Facility pending further court action.
