Police on St. Thomas arrested an Ivanna Eudora Kean High student who was found with marijuana on a school’s campus.
The V.I. Police Department did not release the name of the student, who is a minor, but in a news release, Public Information Officer Melody Rames said he was arrested shortly before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and was found to be carrying three small Ziplock bags of marijuana and loose marijuana.
The minor was charged with simple possession of marijuana, and was released into his parents’ custody pending a hearing in juvenile court. In a statement Thursday, St. Thomas-St. John District Police Chief Rodney Querrard Sr. cautioned parents to pay close attention to their children, check their school bags and know who their friends and acquaintances are.
“Students who bring drugs to sell in school are usually recruited by an older person who is using that student for criminal purposes,” Querrard said. “These activities can lead to the destruction of a young person’s life even before they fully understand the consequences of their actions.”
