Women Attempt to Rob Nail Shop with Plastic Fork

Police on St. Croix are investigating an unusual attempted robbery that occurred just after 2 p.m. Saturday at a nail shop in the Diamond Shopping Center.

According to witnesses, two Hispanic women entered the business and, while one stood by the door, the other suspect brandished a plastic fork and demanded money, police were told.

The employee refused and the suspect tried unsuccessfully to open the cash drawer. The suspects were chased out of the store by employees.

No one was injured and no money was taken.

Both suspects were wearing greenish hooded sweatshirts, according to police. The suspect who threatened the employee was about 5 feet, 4 inches tall and wore white-rimmed sunglasses. The second suspect was described as being taller and wearing a stocking cap over her face.

Anyone with information on the incidents can call the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives at 712-6077 or 712-6037, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.
