Police Say Reckless Driver Had Marijuana, Passenger Had Taser

Police on St. Croix arrested Lionel Williams Jr., 23, aka “Shabba,” who officers said was recklessly driving a Mack dumptruck, causing several vehicles to swerve off the roadway, the V.I. Police Department reported Tuesday.

Williams also had a quantity of marijuana in the truck, the police said. The truck’s passenger, 18-year-old Junie Scotland, aka “Fat Boy,” was arrested for being in possession of a taser, which is classified as a deadly weapon.

The incident occurred Saturday when police were notified of a dump truck traveling erratically, causing vehicles to swerve off the road and almost hitting a pedestrian in the vicinity of the Richmond Post Office in Christiansted.

St. Croix officers stopped the vehicle and asked both occupants to exit. While the suspects were being questioned about the reckless driving, Scotland admitted having an operable taser in his possession. When the officer looked inside the vehicle, they saw in plain view a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance, which was later field tested positive for marijuana.
