Officers on saturated patrol arrested two men on St. Croix and confiscated a firearm that was hidden in a bag with bread Friday night, the V.I. Police Department reported.
Brian Christian and Alvin Hilaire were charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm at about 9:15 p.m. Friday.
According to police, officers made a routine traffic stop on a vehicle near the Croixville Apartments in Frederiksted when they noticed the two occupants were not wearing their seatbelts. Officers approached the vehicle and talked to the driver and passenger and observed they seemed overly nervous.
While conducting a consensual search inside the vehicle an officer picked up a paper bag containing long bread and found a 9mm Taurus handgun inside. The suspects were arrested and charged.
Christian lives in Estate Williams Delight and is 34 years old. Alvin Hilaire, 44, is a resident of Estate Grove Place. Both men were held on $25,000 bail and remanded to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending their advice of rights hearing.
