Brief: WMA Cautions Residents on Golden Rock, Sunny Isle Projects

The V.I. Waste Management Authority warned residents and drivers Friday that it has two ongoing sewer-line replacement projects they should be aware of for safety.

Golden Rock Area:

Repairs to a collapsed 6-inch line in the vicinity of Club St. Croix in the Golden Rock area were scheduled to begin this weekend. Approximately 270 feet of concrete sewer line will be replaced with 6-inch PVC piping.

The work will impact the traffic flow along Route 752 which runs from Harbour View Housing Community eastward, VIWMA said. Residents within the construction area will be allowed vehicular access to their properties for the duration of this project, which is expected to last approximately 14 days.

Vehicular traffic will be reduced to one lane during this time. Motorists are asked to use alternate routes when possible and to reduce vehicular speed and adhere to the directions of posted signs and flagmen.

Sunny Isle Area:

Repairs will be made to a damaged 18-inch sewer line running adjacent to the rear of the Sunny Isle Mall in the rear parking lot behind Kmart. Motorists are asked to use alternate parking areas for the duration of this project.

Residents are asked to report any sewage overflows to VIWMA at its customer service hotline at 713-1962 in St. Croix and 774-4139 in St. Thomas/St. John. The agency also has a "Report-A-Problem" function on its website, www.viwma.org.

Further information can be obtained by calling 712-4951 or 690-4218.
