Man Fatally Shot at H.H. Bergs Home

A 38-year-old Hospital Ground resident was shot and killed Sunday evening in the H.H. Bergs Home housing community, the V.I.Police Department reported Monday.

Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives on St. Thomas are investigating the death of Maho Penha, which occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday. During the incident a 19-year-old man was grazed in the head by a bullet but he survived the shooting, police said.

According to the police report, Penha was shot multiple times about the body. Both victims were transported to the Roy Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment, and Penha was later pronounced dead by medical personnel. The other victim was treated for his injury and released.

Police said this was the ninth homicide of the year on St. Thomas, the 28th in the territory.
